G
Galactophilia / Lactophilia
Sexual arousal from breast milk or the act of breastfeeding. Can involve nursing from a lactating partner, expressing milk, or the eroticism of lactation itself. Related to adult nursing relationships (ANR) in which non-lactating partners engage in regular nursing as an intimacy practice.
Galeophilia
Sexual attraction to sharks. A rare nature-based paraphilia typically expressed through fantasy, artwork, and media rather than real-world contact.
Gargalophilia
Sexual arousal from tickling or being tickled. Also called tickling fetishism or knismolagnia. One of the more commonly discussed uncommon fetishes — the tickling fetish community has a significant online presence. Overlaps with light bondage and helplessness dynamics.
Gerontophilia
Sexual attraction to elderly people. The attraction is to age itself — the appearance, experience, or characteristics associated with older individuals — rather than to any incidental quality.
Globophilia
Sexual arousal from balloons — including inflating them, popping them, rubbing against them, or sitting on them. One of the more recognised niche fetish communities with its own dedicated spaces online.
Golden Shower
The act of urinating on or being urinated on by a partner for sexual pleasure. One of the most widely practiced water sports acts. See also: Water Sports, Urolagnia, Piss Play.
Gorean
A lifestyle based on the fictional slave society depicted in John Norman's Gor novel series. Gorean dynamics are typically male-dominant and female-submissive with specific protocols, titles, and rituals drawn from the books. Considered by many in the BDSM community as distinct from mainstream BDSM practice.
Gymnophilia
Erotic interest in nudity or naked bodies. Common across all sexualities — nudist and naturist communities can overlap with gymnophilia though nudism itself is not inherently sexual.
Gynandromorphophilia
Sexual attraction to transgender women or to men presenting in a feminine way. Sometimes abbreviated as GAMP.
H
Hair Fetishism / Trichophilia
Sexual arousal from hair — its appearance, texture, smell, or the act of touching, cutting, or pulling it. Hair pulling (fisting) is a common sensation play element in BDSM scenes. Trichophilia specifically can focus on head hair, body hair, or pubic hair.
Handler
The guide, trainer, owner, and caretaker of a pup in a puppy play dynamic. The handler provides commands, praise, training, and aftercare. Leads through care and authority. The handler equivalent of a Dominant in a D/s dynamic. See also: Pup Play, Alpha Pup, Pack.
Hanky Code / Flagging
A colour-coded system originating in 1970s gay male cruising culture in which a handkerchief worn in the left back pocket signals an active or top interest in a specific kink, and worn in the right pocket signals a receptive or bottom interest. Still recognised and used in leather, cruising, and fetish spaces. Key colours include yellow (water sports), black (S&M), red (fisting), light blue (oral), and grey (bondage). See also: Flagging, Cruising.
Hard Limit
An absolute boundary — something a person will not do under any circumstances within a BDSM dynamic. Non-negotiable. Distinguished from soft limits, which are activities someone is hesitant about but may consider under specific conditions. Hard limits must be established and respected before any dynamic or scene begins.
Headspace
The altered psychological state a person enters during BDSM play or roleplay. Sub-space is the headspace of a submissive; pup space is the headspace of a pup; little space is the headspace of a Little. Characterised by intense presence, reduced anxiety, and a sense of freedom from everyday obligations. Can be profound and requires appropriate aftercare to return from safely.
Hematolagnia
Sexual arousal from blood — either the sight of it, contact with it, or the act of drawing it. Related to blood play and vampirism dynamics. Carries significant health considerations around disease transmission. See also: Blood Play, Vampirism.
Hierophilia
Sexual arousal from religious or sacred objects, settings, or rituals. Can involve religious imagery, vestments, confessional dynamics, or the transgressive charge of incorporating the sacred into sexual contexts.
Hirsutophilia
Sexual arousal from body hair — particularly excessive or dense body hair. Closely linked to bear culture's celebration of hairiness as an attractive and identity-relevant characteristic.
Hogtie
A bondage position in which a person's wrists and ankles are bound and fastened together behind their back, restricting all major movement. Requires monitoring for circulation and breathing concerns given the physical strain of the position.
Hoplophilia
Sexual arousal from firearms or weapons. Related to gunplay in BDSM contexts — the use of real or simulated firearms in scenes for psychological intensity and fear play.
Human Furniture / Forniphilia
A kink in which a person is used as a piece of furniture — footstool, table, display plinth — as a form of objectification and service submission. The person being used as furniture is entirely objectified for the duration of the scene. See also: Forniphilia, Objectification.
Human Urinal
A submissive role within water sports dynamics in which the person receives urine as part of a service or humiliation dynamic. The identity is worn with pride within the community by those who identify with it. See also: Water Sports, Piss Play.
Humiliation Play
The use of humiliating language, situations, or actions as a consensual erotic tool. Very common across D/s and M/s dynamics. The submissive actively seeks and desires the experience. Distinguished entirely from genuine abuse by consent and the erotic charge the submissive derives from it. See also: Degradation, Erotic Humiliation.
Hybristophilia
Sexual attraction to criminals — particularly those who have committed violent or extreme crimes. Often called Bonnie and Clyde syndrome. Primarily expressed through fantasy and media rather than real-world pursuit.
I
Impact Play
BDSM play involving striking the body — with hands, paddles, floggers, crops, canes, or other implements. One of the most common BDSM practices. Impact produces sensations ranging from mild sting through to deep thud depending on implement and technique. Requires knowledge of safe zones (areas of the body that can be safely struck) and unsafe zones (spine, kidneys, joints).
Inspection
A formal scenario in which a submissive strips naked at a Dominant's command and presents themselves for physical inspection — body, posture, grooming, and appearance assessed. Common in M/s and D/s dynamics with formal protocol. Can be conducted privately or witnessed by others as part of objectification scenes.
Integumentophilia
Sexual arousal from skin — its texture, appearance, or feel. A broad paraphilia that can encompass smooth skin, textured skin, or the sensation of skin-to-skin contact specifically.
Impregnation Fetishism
Sexual arousal from the act or idea of being impregnated or impregnating another person. Overlaps with breeding kink and raw sex communities. Can be practiced as fantasy, within CNC dynamics, or as an actual reproductive goal in some consensual relationship structures.
J
Japanese Bondage / Shibari / Kinbaku
Traditional Japanese rope bondage with distinct techniques, aesthetics, and philosophy. Shibari refers to the decorative rope tying art form. Kinbaku — the tighter, more formal tradition — emphasises the emotional and psychological connection between the person tying and the person being tied. Both are practiced as art forms in their own right with global communities, workshops, and performance events. See also: Bondage, Rope Bondage.
Jelly Fetishism
Sexual arousal from gelatinous substances — jelly, slime, or similar viscous materials — either on the body or in sexual scenarios. Related to wet and messy fetishism (sploshing). See also: Wet and Messy Fetishism.
K
Kajira
The Gorean word for a female slave. Used within Gorean BDSM communities to identify the slave role. Derived from John Norman's Gor novel series. See also: Gorean.
Kitten Play
A form of pet play in which a participant takes on the persona, behaviour, and headspace of a cat. Kitten play has its own distinct culture — typically softer, more sensual, and more feminine-presenting than pup play. Common gear includes ears, tails, collars, and paw gloves. See also: Pet Play, Pup Play.
Kinbaku
Traditional Japanese erotic rope bondage — the more formal and intimate tradition alongside shibari. Kinbaku specifically emphasises the emotional connection and psychological depth of the bond between the person tying and the person being tied. See also: Shibari, Bondage.
Kink
An umbrella term for sexual practices, interests, and identities that fall outside mainstream sexual norms. BDSM falls under the kink umbrella. What constitutes kink varies by culture and context. The term is widely preferred within the community over clinical or pathologising language.
Kleptolagnia
Sexual arousal from the act of stealing or from the risk of being caught stealing. A danger and transgression-based paraphilia.
Klismaphilia
Sexual arousal from enemas — administering them, receiving them, or both. The fullness, pressure, or humiliation of the act is the primary appeal depending on the individual. See also: Enema Play.
Knife Play
BDSM edge play using knives or blades for sensation and psychological intensity — typically dragging the flat of a blade across skin, tracing patterns, or using the psychological fear of the weapon rather than actual cutting. Requires experienced handling and a clearly established understanding of limits between both partners.
L
Latex / Rubber Fetishism
Sexual arousal from latex or rubber — their texture, appearance, smell, and the sensation of being encased in them. One of the most established material fetishes with a dedicated global community, events, and gear industry. Common at fetish clubs, Torture Garden, and leather events.
Leather
Both a material fetish and a community identity. The leather community has deep roots in post-war gay male culture and BDSM history. Leather bars, leather runs, leather pride flags, and leather protocol are all significant parts of the community. Leather and BDSM culture are deeply intertwined though not identical.
Leg Fetishism / Crurophilia
Sexual arousal from legs — their appearance, shape, or the sensation of contact with them. Can focus on the full leg, thighs, calves, or specific aspects of leg presentation such as stockings or heels.
Limits
Boundaries established through negotiation before a BDSM dynamic or scene begins. Hard limits are non-negotiable. Soft limits are activities a person is hesitant about but may consider under specific conditions. Limits should be revisited regularly as experience and comfort levels change. See also: Hard Limit, Soft Limit, Negotiation.
Little
The partner in a CGL dynamic who adopts a childlike persona and enters little space. Can be any gender. Littles explore vulnerability, care, and the relief of setting down adult responsibilities within a safe, consensual dynamic. See also: CGL, Age Play, DDLG, DDLB, Little Space.
Little Space
The psychological state a Little enters during CGL play — a genuine mental shift into a childlike headspace characterised by playfulness, vulnerability, and a sense of being cared for. Many participants find little space genuinely therapeutic alongside or instead of its erotic dimensions. See also: Little, Headspace.
Locktober
A community event held in October in which participants commit to wearing a chastity device for the entire month. Widely practiced within D/s, femdom, and chastity fetish communities. See also: Chastity.
M
Macrophilia
Sexual arousal from giant beings — real or imagined. Typically expressed through fantasy, artwork, and roleplay involving imagined growth or shrinking scenarios. Involves themes of power imbalance through physical size difference.
Masochism
Deriving sexual pleasure from receiving pain, humiliation, bondage, or suffering. One of the two components of S/M in BDSM. Masochists seek and enjoy sensation that others would experience as painful or unpleasant. Distinguished from the clinical definition of masochistic disorder by the consensual, desired, and pleasurable nature of the practice. See also: Sadism, S/M.
Master
A Dominant in a formal M/s (Master/slave) dynamic — typically one with higher protocol, more structured power exchange, and greater depth of surrender from the slave than standard D/s. The title is earned within the community and carries specific meaning. See also: M/s, D/s, Slave.
Master/slave (M/s)
A formal and typically high-protocol BDSM dynamic in which a Master or Mistress holds extensive authority over a slave who has surrendered significantly more autonomy than in a standard D/s relationship. Often includes rules, rituals, forms of address, and ongoing protocol that structures daily life. See also: TPE, D/s.
MDLB (Mommy Domme / Little Boy)
A CGL dynamic in which a female-presenting Dominant (Mommy) takes on a nurturing, protective role with a male-presenting Little. The female-led version of DDLB. See also: CGL, Littles.
Mechanophilia
Sexual attraction to machines — cars, motorcycles, bicycles, aircraft, or other mechanical objects. Can involve the aesthetics, power, or physical sensation of machinery.
Medical Play
BDSM roleplay incorporating medical scenarios, equipment, or settings — doctor/patient dynamics, nurse roleplay, clinical examination scenes, and the use of medical instruments for sensation play. A significant kink within D/s and objectification communities.
Menophilia
Sexual arousal from menstruation — including blood, the menstrual cycle, or sexual activity during menstruation. Related to blood play dynamics for some practitioners.
Microphilia
Sexual arousal from imagined shrunken beings or from being shrunk. The opposite of macrophilia. Expressed primarily through fantasy, artwork, and roleplay.
Middle
A CGL identity referring to someone who regresses to a pre-teen or teenage age range rather than infant or toddler. The middle identity sits between little and adult space and has its own distinct culture. See also: Little, CGL.
Mindfuck
The deliberate manipulation of a partner's perception, expectations, or sense of reality as part of a BDSM scene. Psychological edge play that can be deeply intense and disorienting. Requires significant trust and clear limits around what is and is not acceptable to manipulate.
Mistress
A female Dominant within a D/s or M/s dynamic. The title carries real weight within the community — it is earned through experience and commitment, not assumed. Also used in professional dominatrix contexts. See also: Femdom, Dominatrix, Dom Space.
Morphophilia
Sexual arousal from specific body shapes, sizes, or physical characteristics. An umbrella term that encompasses many more specific body-type fetishes including fat fetishism, muscle worship, and attraction to specific physical traits.
Mummification
Full-body bondage that immobilises the person completely — wrapping them entirely in materials such as cling film, pallet wrap, bandages, or tape. Creates total restriction, sensory alteration, and intense psychological experience. Requires constant monitoring of breathing and circulation. See also: Bondage, Sensory Deprivation.
Munch
A casual, non-sexual social gathering for people interested in BDSM and kink, held in a public venue such as a pub or café. No play, no gear, no dress code. Munches are the most accessible entry point to the kink community and are welcoming to newcomers. Held in most UK cities on a regular basis.
Muscle Worship / Sthenolagnia
Sexual arousal from muscles, displays of physical strength, or muscular physiques. Closely related to body worship but focused specifically on musculature and strength as the primary erotic focus. A significant subset of the gay male community in particular.
Mysophilia
Sexual arousal from dirtiness, filth, soiled or decaying material. Can overlap with degradation dynamics — the appeal of the dirty or contaminated is the erotic transgression. Related to scent fetishism and bodily fluid dynamics.
N
Narratophilia
Sexual arousal from obscene words, dirty talk, or erotic language. One of the most common kink-adjacent experiences — the use of explicit language during sex is extremely widespread. In its more intense form, narratophilia involves the specific words themselves being a primary erotic focus rather than just a supplement to physical activity.
Navel Fetishism / Alvinophilia
Sexual arousal from the navel or belly button. A specific form of partialism focused on this anatomical feature — its appearance, depth, or contact with it.
Needle Play
BDSM edge play involving the use of sterile needles inserted through the skin for sensation, altered states, or visual impact. A form of play piercing — needles are typically placed and removed within a single scene. Requires sterile technique, knowledge of anatomy, and a controlled setting. Rarely available at public events due to medical waste and blood exposure concerns.
Negotiation
The discussion between partners before a BDSM scene or dynamic begins — covering activities, limits, safewords, health considerations, and expectations. Negotiation is considered fundamental to responsible BDSM practice. The depth and formality of negotiation varies from brief verbal agreement to written contracts depending on the dynamic. See also: Contract, Limits, Safeword.
NRE (New Relationship Energy)
The intense excitement, infatuation, and heightened focus that characterises the early stages of a new relationship. A term widely used in polyamory culture to describe the particular energy of new connections. Important to acknowledge in polyamorous relationships as NRE can affect perspective on existing partnerships.
O
Objectification
The act of treating or being treated as an object rather than a person — dehumanising for erotic purposes within a consensual dynamic. Common in D/s, M/s, forniphilia, and human furniture scenarios. The objectified partner surrenders personhood for the duration of the scene.
Oculolinctus
Sexual arousal from licking the eyes of another person. Also called eyeball licking. A rare and medically risky paraphilia due to the potential for eye infection and corneal damage.
Olfactophilia / Bromidrophilia
Sexual arousal from smells and body odours — particularly natural body scents from armpits, genitals, breath, or sweat. One of the more common sensory fetishes, closely linked to the limbic system's role in sexual attraction and memory.
Omega Pup
The most submissive and service-oriented role within pup play pack dynamics. The omega focuses on pleasing their handler and the rest of the pack hierarchy. See also: Pup Play, Pack, Alpha Pup.
Omorashi
A niche kink centred on the sensation of a full bladder or the act of wetting oneself — typically in clothing. The appeal is the urgency, desperation, and loss of control rather than the act of urination on another person. Particularly visible in Japanese fetish culture but practiced internationally. See also: Water Sports.
Open Relationship
A relationship structure in which a primary couple agrees to allow sexual relationships outside their partnership. Typically the outside connections are sexual rather than romantic, distinguishing it from polyamory. See also: ENM, Polyamory.
Orgasm Control
A power exchange practice in which a Dominant controls when, whether, and how a submissive is permitted to orgasm. Includes orgasm denial (prohibiting orgasm entirely) and forced orgasm (requiring repeated orgasm). Common in D/s and femdom dynamics as a form of ongoing control.
Orgasm Denial
A specific form of orgasm control in which the submissive is prevented from reaching orgasm — sometimes indefinitely. Practiced through tease and denial scenes, chastity devices, and behavioural rules. See also: Orgasm Control, Chastity, Tease and Denial.
P
Pack
A group of pups who socialise, play, and identify together within pup play community. Packs typically have a hierarchy including an alpha and may have a handler or owner. Pack identity is a significant part of pup play culture. See also: Pup Play, Alpha Pup, Handler.
Partialism
Sexual arousal from a specific non-genital body part. The most common form is foot fetishism (podophilia) but partialism can focus on any body part — hands, armpits, hair, noses, necks, ears, or any other anatomical feature. Extremely common across all genders and orientations.
Paw
A key identity symbol in both pup play and bear/cub culture. Wearing a paw symbol — as jewellery, patch, or tattoo — signals community membership and identity. The paw design serves both communities and is one of FETBOMB's most cross-community pieces. Browse Puppy Play and Bears & Cubs collections.
Pegging
The act of a female or strap-on-wearing partner penetrating a male partner anally using a strap-on dildo. A common and significant femdom and D/s practice. One of the most searched-for kink acts and a key part of many D/s and femdom dynamics.
Pet Play
A form of BDSM roleplay in which a participant takes on the persona, behaviour, and headspace of a non-human animal. Common forms include pup play (dog), kitten play (cat), pony play (horse), and fox play. Can be purely social, psychological, or erotic. See also: Pup Play, Kitten Play, Pony Play.
Piquerism
Sexual arousal from piercing or cutting the flesh of another person — typically through stabbing, scratching, or cutting the skin. In consensual kink contexts this overlaps with needle play, knife play, and blood play. See also: Edge Play, Blood Play.
Piss Play
Sexual activity involving urine. An umbrella term covering golden showers, human urinal dynamics, omorashi, and all water sports practices. See also: Water Sports, Urolagnia, Golden Shower.
Play
The community term for engaging in BDSM activity. Scenes are described as play — "playing" with someone, "play party," "play space." The term deliberately frames BDSM activity as consensual, intentional, and distinct from non-consensual contexts.
Play Party
A private or semi-private event where BDSM play takes place. Typically has house rules, a dungeon monitor, and a defined dress code. Different from a munch in that actual scenes and play occur. Play parties range from small private gatherings to large organised fetish events.
Plushophilia
Sexual attraction to stuffed toys or plush animals. Closely related to the furry fandom community — practitioners are sometimes called plushies or furries interchangeably though they are distinct communities. See also: Furry Fandom.
Polyamory
The practice of having multiple romantic or sexual relationships simultaneously with the full knowledge and consent of all parties. A subset of ethical non-monogamy (ENM). The defining principle is transparency and consent. See also: ENM, Compersion, Metamour.
Pony Play
A form of pet play in which a participant takes on the persona and behaviour of a horse. One of the oldest and most established pet play traditions. Pony play gear includes bridles, bits, harnesses, and hooves. Events include dressage competitions, shows, and training sessions. The trainer/pony dynamic is the equivalent of the handler/pup relationship.
Power Exchange
The consensual transfer of power from one partner to another as the basis of a BDSM dynamic. One person leads, the other follows. Power exchange can be scene-based or lifestyle-based and ranges from mild to total surrender. The central concept underlying D/s, M/s, TPE, and most other BDSM structures. See also: D/s, M/s, TPE.
Praise Kink
Sexual arousal from receiving verbal affirmations, compliments, and praise during sexual activity. The opposite of a degradation kink — the submissive is aroused by being told they are good, beautiful, or performing well rather than by being degraded. Common in CGL, gentle femdom, and care-focused D/s dynamics.
Predicament Bondage
An advanced form of bondage in which the restrained person is placed in a situation where any movement creates discomfort or consequence — requiring them to hold a difficult position or make a choice between two uncomfortable options. Requires experience, significant trust, and carefully negotiated limits.
Pro-Domme
A professional dominatrix who offers paid BDSM sessions to clients. A distinct professional industry with its own ethics, training, and standards. Clients pay for the Domme's time, expertise, and the experience of the dynamic — not for sexual services. Common entry point for submissives new to the lifestyle. See also: Dominatrix, Femdom.
Protocol
Structured rules, rituals, and behaviours that govern how a D/s or M/s dynamic operates — particularly in formal dynamics. High protocol may include specific forms of address, postures, rituals of service, and rules about speech and behaviour. Low protocol is more relaxed and situational. Protocol reinforces the power exchange and keeps it present between scenes.
Pup
A person who adopts a canine persona, mannerisms, and headspace within pup play. Can identify across a spectrum — from casual play to full lifestyle identity. See also: Pup Play, Handler, Pack.
Pup Play
A form of BDSM roleplay rooted in leather culture where a participant adopts the persona, mannerisms, and headspace of a dog. Has its own community, events, and identity markers distinct from but related to BDSM. See also: Handler, Pack, Pup Space, Pup Mosh.
Pup Space
The psychological state a pup enters during play — characterised by present-moment focus, playfulness, and freedom from adult responsibility. Similar in nature to sub-space but specific to the pup persona. See also: Headspace, Sub-Space, Aftercare.
